Best of The West End Edinburgh Fringe 2022 theSpace @ Symposium Hall 5th August Review
American Performing Arts International made a welcome return to Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022 at theSpace@Symposium Hall with their ever popular Best of the West End show. This show does exactly what the title says, taking well known hit songs from West End musicals and does it extremely well.
Opening, appropriately, with Hello from The Book of Mormon, the show features six world-class professional singers performing a range of songs from many people’s favourite shows, including Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Spamalot, and many more.
Every year I try to find time to review this show as everyone on stage is “performing” rather than “singing”, as Megan, Kristin, Rex, David, Cam, and Preston always give these songs the live on stage performance respect that they deserve and deliver them perfectly with the all necessary emotions, whether that be humour, or love, or sadness.
What makes this show and these songs work so well is that every singer in this show has a different vocal range and that is used to maximum effect here as lead vocals, duets and ensemble performances are chosen to match the vocals of which performer/performers suit any particular song the best.
You might not be able to make it down to the heart of theatre land and the West End of London, but Best of the West End is definitely worth the visit while you are here in Edinburgh, but it is only here until 13th August, so, if you love musicals, make sure to get your tickets soon.
