One Day Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh March 2026
One Day Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh 11th March
With songs/lyrics this strong, One Day is a huge showcase for the talents of the two central people in this story, Dexter Mayhew and Emma Morley and on stage Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose give strong performances that do justice to the songs, but also both have the dramatic abilities required to give depth to the music and, when required, story itself.  Just as important as this, Jamie Muscato and Sharon Rose are a believable couple here. The show also allows for some spotlight moments for the rest of this cast too who all help to fill out the world around Emma and Dexter over these 20 years.

Samantha Fish Paper Doll World Tour Queen's Hall Edinburgh 6th March
Starting tonight’s set with "Paper Doll", the title track from the latest album, set this show out from the very start as it continued for the rest of the evening, Samantha Fish and the band here to put on the best show they could for this audience, oh and for her also to take obvious pleasure in announcing that she had sold out this venue (which holds 900 plus people).

Matilda the Musical Playhouse Theatre Edinburgh March 2026
Matilda Playhouse Theatre Edinburgh 5th March
Matilda is a Royal Shakespeare Company production, with the book for this show by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, and although Matilda the Musical does not follow the original story in every detail, it adapts to stage a production that has that story telling feel that Roald Dahl readers have come to love over the years.  There are also some classic show songs here too.  Interestingly, the writer and story were in place for RSC's Matilda before the composer and songs, which is not the usual way a show like this is created.

Inspector Morse Festival Theatre Edinburgh March 2026
Inspector Morse Festival Theatre Edinburgh 3rd March
Wisely, this production has been set in 1987, the time period of the first of the television shows, thus avoiding modern elements such as vast computer and DNA screening databases and of course mobile phones. This world of 1987 is one that Morse is already uncomfortable in, so 2026 would have been too big a culture-shift for this much loved character and also created more than a few problems for this multi-layer whodunit script.

RSNO: Beethoven's Violin Concerto Usher Hall Edinburgh February 2026
RSNO: Beethoven's Violin Concerto Usher Hall Edinburgh 27th February
The opening work was Beethoven Violin Concerto in D Major.  With a performance time of around 42 minutes, this is a large work that, because of its length, is physically and mentally demanding of any violinist performing it, plus, of course, the technical abilities required to do so. In all of these aspects, Veronika Eberle clearly demonstrated this evening why her talents as a violinist are so in demand with so many major orchestras across the world.
NOTE. Stars rating not used on classical music performances.
